Broncos safety P.J. Locke ‘will be fine’ after being carted off practice field

Denver Broncos safety P.J. Locke was carted off the practice field Tuesday during 7-on-7 drills, according to The Denver Post‘s Parker Gabriel.
Locke (5-10, 202 pounds) suffered an apparent left leg injury. The severity of the injury is unknown. Broncos coach Sean Payton is scheduled to speak after practice, but it might take some tests to reveal the extent of the injury.
Broncos safeties Justin Simmons (groin), Kareem Jackson (undisclosed) and Caden Sterns (undisclosed) did not practice on Tuesday, so Locke’s injury could leave the team a bit thin at safety.
Denver does have sixth-round pick JL Skinner, second-year defensive back Delarrin Turner-Yell and Devon Key providing depth at the position, but none of those players are in contention to start this season.
Sterns and Locke were the team’s top backup rotational safeties last season behind Simmons and Jackson. Locke totaled 22 tackles (one behind the line) and one pass breakup in 16 games last year.
