Breslin time! St. Ignace boys roll past Forest Park, advance to state semifinals at MSU

GLADSTONE – The St. Ignace boys are Breslin bound.

Sparked by another sensational scoring performance from senior Jonny Ingalls and a plethora of others doing their part, the Saints booked their ticket to the state semifinals with a 68-51 victory over Crystal Falls Forest Park in a MHSAA Division 4 basketball quarterfinal at Gladstone on Tuesday.

“It’s big for our town,” St. Ignace coach Doug Ingalls said following the win. “Awesome, awesome. A lot of fans traveling this way, awesome stuff.”

Jonny Ingalls, a senior, was once again a force, pouring in a game-high 41 points to fuel the Saints. Of his 41, Ingalls scored 39 over the first three quarters of play.

Also coming up with a strong performance was senior Ethan McLean, who tallied 13 points, while Kordell KillsCrow added seven, Evan Arnold netted four, and Trevor Visnaw chipped in with three.

“Ethan got it going and Jonny got it going,” Ingalls said. “I wish Ethan would've gotten more shots early because he was rolling. Again, if we can keep Nick (Halburg) on the court – that’s where we broke down at the end – and then we’re a good team."

Senior Jonny Ingalls (11) scored a game-high 41 points for the St. Ignace boys, who defeated Crystal Falls Forest Park in a MHSAA Division 4 state quarterfinal basketball matchup at Gladstone on Tuesday.

With the win, the Saints (21-6) advance to face Wyoming Tri-Unity Christian (22-5) in a 5:30 p.m. semifinal clash at Michigan State University on Thursday. Tri-Unity Christian picked up a 62-29 triumph over St. Joseph Our Lady of the Lake Catholic in its quarterfinal on Tuesday.

“We’ve got to play Wyoming Tri-Unity Christian, who is the perennial (powerhouse),” Ingalls said. “Since Chris Kaman in 2000 and before, I don’t know if they’ve got four, five, six, seven state titles, but they’ve been there 10-15 times, probably, so we’ll be the underdog no matter what. You’ve got to be excited and enjoy the journey, but you can’t be satisfied. It’s tough to do.”
