Breaking down the S Terrence Brooks contract with the Texans

The Houston Texans agreed to a one-year contract with former New England Patriots safety Terrence Brooks.

It marks the fourth straight offseason the Texans have addressed the safety position in free agency.

Brooks played 29 games with the New England Patriots over the past two seasons, starting in two of them.

According to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle, the Texans will pay Brooks $2 million with a $250,000 signing bonus. The contact comes with a $1.1 million salary and up to $400,00 roster bonus per game he is active. Brooks can also earn up to $250,000 play-time incentive.

The 5-11, 205-pound safety arrived in the NFL as a third-round pick of the Baltimore Ravens in 2014, where he played the first two years of his career. In 2016, Brooks played a year with the Philadelphia Eagles before landing with the New York Jets from 2017-18.

The Texans have safeties A.J. Moore, Justin Reid, and Eric Murray on the roster.
