Braxton Plunk, DeAndre Parker power Mount Union football team to season-opening win

DEFIANCE — Mount Union's 2023 college football season is off to a flying start.

Braxton Plunk threw two touchdown passes and DeAndre Parker ran for two touchdowns to help power the Purple Raiders to a 45-6 victory over Defiance on Saturday.

The Purple Raiders built a 21-0 halftime lead and put the game away in the third quarter when they outscored the Yellow Jackets 17-6. Parker's 71-yard touchdown run after Defiance's only score was the decisive blow.

Parker finished with 167 yards rushing on 14 carries. He now has 11 career 100-yard rushing games.

Plunk finished 25 of 31 for 231 yards. He threw touchdown passes to Ray Williams and Edwin Reed.

Ryan Eiden and Darnell Williams also ran for touchdowns for Mount Union, which finished with 572 total yards.

Mount Union's defense recorded 10 sacks. Kaleb Brown led the way with a career-high 3.5 sacks.

After a bye week next week, the Purple Raiders will travel to Marietta to face the Pioneers. Their home opener is on Sept. 23 against Muskingum.
