Boys golf: Harrison junior Tommy Mangan is again in play for the Section 1 title
Tommy Mangan is back in play.
A low-stress, 2-over par 70 in the opening round of the Section 1 tournament at Waccabuc Country Club on Monday left the Harrison junior atop the leaderboard. He will be sleeping on the lead for two nights and will go into the final round with a two-shot cushion.
Mangan was the runner-up last spring, finishing seven strokes behind the since-graduated champion, Shaun Flaherty of Arlington.
The final round will be played at Trump National – Hudson Valley on Wednesday. A total of 30 players made the cut and will compete for nine spots on the state team.
A pair of sophomores are joining Mangan in the final group. Leo Chu of Scarsdale opened with a 74 and Kevin Wang of Eastchester carded a 75.
There are only six players within six shots of the lead.
