Ricky Hatton was embarrassed in his fights against Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather, but it's nothing compared to the shame he's dealing with after getting outed as a potential drug user in the British tabloids. On Wednesday, the British Boxing Board of Control added to his woes by withdrawing his boxer's license. Part of the BBBofC statement via the Telegraph.co.uk:
"The board is especially concerned to keep the sport of boxing free from drugs, whether taken for recreational or performance enhancing reasons and to be vigilant in identifying and dealing with cases of alcohol abuse
"At the hearing, the board found Ricky Hatton guilty of misconduct in that his actions and behaviour were detrimental to the interests of boxing and to the public interest and that he had brought the sport into disrepute."
Hatton was also fined $31,000.
Two weeks ago, News of the World posted a video that appeared to feature the British boxer using drugs during what was reported to be a 10-hour binge in a Manchester hotel.
Emma Bowe, a female fighter, claimed to have witnessed Hatton partying. She said:
"I'm only talking about this because Ricky is a danger to himself. If he carries on like this he'll kill himself.
"I'm really, really worried for him especially if he tries to make a comeback in the ring as he's hinted - he could have a heart attack."
Hatton entered rehab on Sept. 13.
