Bowman County busts loose for a 77-16 win over Beach

Jan. 5—BEACH — The Bowman County Bulldogs improved to an impressive 4-0 record in Division B/Region 3-District 5 with a lopsided, 77-16 win over Beach on the road, Thursday, Jan. 4 to give them a 7-1 record for the 2023-24 season. BCHS soaked up almost all of Beach's offense to open a huge, 30-5, first-quarter lead on the strength of 9 points from junior guard Sophia Headley — which included a 3-pointer — and 10 from junior forward Raegen Honeyman, who shot 4-of-5 from the free-throw line.

The Bulldogs kept up the pressure with 27 more points in the final eight minutes of the first half, as seven athletes got into the scorebook — on the way to a total of 10 in the game — and junior guard Adyson Gerbig scored 6 of her 8 first-half points to pace the home-team as they headed to the locker rooms at the break.

Things quieted down after the teams returned to the floor, but senior guard Jaci Fischer drilled a 3-pointer in the third quarter on her way to a double-digit total of 11 in the game, and sophomore guard Teagan Homelvig drained another in the fourth. Honeyman scored only 2 more in the third quarter for a game-high 15, and Headley didn't see any action on the court in the second half and ended up with 13. Adyson Gerbig and junior center Kennedy Senn closed-out near double-figures with 9 and Adyson's sister, Landyn, came in with 8 for the game, among the 10 teammates on the scoresheet.

Buccaneer freshman standout Aubrie Dykins had a team-high 9 points, which included a pair of shots from behind the arc.

So far this season, BCHS is putting up 71.4 points per game while holding the opposition to only 37.6 PPG (a +33.8 PPG advantage) and their only loss came courtesy of Harding County (SD), 64-60, at home on Dec. 21.

Next-up for Bowman County will be a Region3-District 5 matchup at home on Tuesday, Jan. 9 versus Hettinger-Scranton (3-4), while Beach will be heading to Plevna, Mon. on Saturday before hosting Solen on Jan. 9.
