Boston HoFer Paul Pierce on how his near-death stabbing incident changed his career
In a recent clip from the Fox show “Stars on Mars,” Hall of Fame Boston Celtics basketball legend Paul Pierce shared a harrowing account of his infamous, near-fatal stabbing incident. The onetime Kansas star called the incident the “lowest point in my life” — early in his career with the Celtics.
“I was out (at a) nightclub, got into an altercation, and I was like 23 years old, living my dream, and then all of the sudden I’m fighting death,” said The Truth via ClutchPoint’s Andrew Korpan.
“Not only was it a low point, it was a high point for me, too, because it changed my thinking, it changed my mindset, it changed how I live,” added Pierce.
“It’s kind of been my life,” said the Celtics icon, “starting at the bottom and rising up.”

Pierce, who famously carried a gun for years afterward, has indeed risen since, winning a title with Boston in 2008 and becoming a mentor to a new generation of Boston greats since retiring from the game.
