Saturday, Jan. 13

Wrestling

CONFERENCE INDIANA TOURNAMENT: Bloomington South (202) took third, claiming three individual champions while Bloomington North, missing its best wrestler, Cael Hickok, was sixth (156). Terre Haute South (311½) topped Columbus North (237) for the team title. South's champions were Jaxson Jean (106 pounds), who won his final with a pin in 3:53; Wyatt Cooksey (144), who won 8-5 in his final and Evan Roudebush, who won his third CI title in a row, winning the 165 title with a pin of THS's Coy Bender in 1:46. South's other top finishers were Oliver Piwoszkin, who was second after getting pinned in the 215 final; Carson Bohall, third at 150, winning his medal with a 14-5 major and Brian Conley (126), Amrin Pratt (132) and Gabe Olinger (138), who were all fourth. North's top finish came from Kanye Roberts-Gray, who was second at 120. Cas Crevello was third at 126, pinning Conley in 4:14; and Tre Beckum was third at 157, winning 13-9. Finishing fourth were Jeremiah Casillas at 165, Mattheus Wynalda at 190 and Chase May at 285. Find complete results at trackwrestling.com.

WESTERN INDIANA CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT: Owen Valley won its third league title in the last four years, scoring 196½ points to hold off Northview (165), North Putnam (157) and Edgewood (151½).in the 11-team field. OV had three champs and Edgewood claimed two titles. The Patriots' title came from Austin Boltinghouse at 106 with a pin in 5:40; Tray Reuter with a 6-2 win in the 113 final and Branson Weaver, who remains undefeated at 144 with a pin of Edgewood's Joel Silvernail in 1:29. Edgewood's John Orman won the 120 title with a 5-2 win over OV's Eli Collier and Michael Neidigh was the 150 champ after a pin of OV's Lucas McBee in 1:34. Taking third for OV were Isaiah White at 126, Riley Martin at 138 and Dylan Hale at 285. Quaid Hinshaw (165) and Collin Willen (175) were fourth and Noah Pendleton (132) and Jenson Ackison (157) were sixth. Edgewood's Cayleb Sides lost the 126 final, 8-3. Peyton Arthur (132), witha pin in 2:57 and Cayleb Stephens (157), with a 10-4 win, were each third; Trenton Fender was fourth at 215, Cameron Richardson fifth at 165 and Dylan Laster was sixth at 113. Boys' basketball

BLOOMINGTON NORTH 87, EVANSVILLE NORTH 69: Cougars (6-8) polish off Huskies (7-6) to complete a weekend sweep. North had a 30-point first quarter to go up 50-26 at half. North shot 33 of 55 and had 26 assists. Luke LIndeman led the way with 29 points.

CLAY CITY 59, OWEN VALLEY 41: Friday's momentum from the win over Edgewood goes away quickly for Patriots (5-8), as Eels (11-3) jump up 31-16 by halftime.

Girls' basketball

EVANSVILLE CENTRAL 62, BLOOMINGTON SOUTH 58: The Panthers (8-10) jumped out to a 12-0 lead, but the Bears kept chipping away and hung on for the win. Central caught South at 35 and eventually went up as much as 12, leading 54-44 with three minutes left before South hit 3s on four straight possessions to get within 58-56 with 58 seconds to go. But the Bears hit four free throws late to seal it. Audrey Craft had 19 points, Violet Hall and Abbie Lucas had nine each and Alaina Maki eight for the Panthers. Karstyn Moore had 26 points to pace the Bears, who were 18-of-25 at line to just 2-of-4 for South.

EASTERN GREENE 65, GREENWOOD 51: Keylee Hudson exploded for 33 points, nine rebounds and five assists to carry the T-Birds (11-7) to the road win over a 4A program. Eastern turned a 15-11 deficit into a 27-18 halftime lead and counted bruises, as well as points, as the Woodmen (5-14) totaled 31 fouls. Hudson's effort saw her break the school career scoring record, finishing the game with 1,110 points. The old mark was held by Jenny Holmes, Class of 1991. Mallorie Elliott nearly had a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds and Bianca Wyatt had 16 points.

SHAKAMAK 59, LIGHTHOUSE CHRISTIAN 23: The Lions (10-8) struggled on the road against a possible sectional foe. The Lakers (15-5) led 33-7 at halftime.

SOUTH PUTNAM 57, OWEN VALLEY 42: Tough weekend for Patriots (6-16, 3-6) in WIC play.

Gymnastics

FRANKLIN CENTRAL INVITATIONAL: Sofie Garcia won the all-around title and Jessica Floyd was fifth to lead Bloomington North to the team title with 105.475 points, while Maddie Kawanishi and Chloe Gautier went 2-7 to lead South to second (102.025). Garcia (36.825) was top-three in all four events, winning bars (9.275) and beam (9.425) and third on vault (9.025) and floor (9.1). Floyd (34.075) won floor (9.2). Dede Eberle was second on bars (9.025). Kawanishi (35.3) was a top-five finisher on each event, taking second on beam (8.825) and fifth on vault (8.825), bars (8.625) and floor (9.025). Gautier (33.775) was fourth on vault (8.85) and seventh on floor (8.625).

Friday, Jan. 12

Boys' basketball

BLOOMINGTON NORTH 69, MARTINSVILLE 47: Cougars (5-8) pick up a big win on the road to start the weekend. Grady Gardner had five 3s and 23 points to lead the Artesians.

COLUMBUS EAST 47, BLOOMINGTON SOUTH 46: The Panthers made some big lineup changes but couldn't change the outcome in the right direction. A turnover with .4 seconds left on an out-of-bounds play with the score tied , then a foul at the buzzer gave the Olympians (4-7) the free throw they needed to stop a 16-game losing streak to South, dating to 2013. Amazingly, It also handed the Panthers (6-7) their first three-game losing streak since January of 2014.

CLAY CITY 39, EASTERN GREENE 36: T-Birds (2-9, 0-3) lose another tough SWIAC game at home as Eels (10-2, 1-1) escape. That's four defeats this season by four points or fewer.

Thursday, Jan. 11

Wrestling

COLUMBUS EAST 50, BLOOMINGTON SOUTH 18: Panther winners — 113: Jaxsen Jean d Ethan Poling, 2-0; 132: Amrin Pratt d Aiden Miller, 9-6; 144: Wyatt Cooksey d Caleb Cooper, 5-4; 175: Evan Roudebush p Tyler Lake, 1:44; 215: Oliver Piwoszkin d James Moss, 4-1.

Girls basketball

MOORESVILLE 44, BLOOMINGTON SOUTH 37: The Panthers (8-9) rallied to get within 32-31 at the end of the third, but the Pioneers (15-4) went 7-of-10 at the line, and South just 1-of-6, to pull away in a slugfest. It's just the fifth time the Pioneers, who led 26-21 at halftime, have been held under 50. Violet Hall had 10 points for South, Audrey Craft nine and Alaina Maki seven.

EASTERN GREENE 53, MITCHELL 32: The T-Birds (10-7) took an 18-8 lead after one period and held off the struggling Bluejackets (1-18). It was 40-27 after three. Keylee Hudson had 19 points, Bianca Wyatt 15 and Mallorie Elliott 13 for Eastern.

Gymnastics

BLOOMINGTON NORTH 106.45, COLUMBUS NORTH 104.1: Sofie Garcia (36.750), Dede Eberle (34.450) and Jessica Floyd (33.850) went 1-3-4 in the all-around to lead the Cougars to the win. North swept the top spots. Eberle (9.25) and Garcia (9.0) went 1-4 on vault; Garcia (9.2) and Eberle (8.8) 1-3 on bars; Garcia (9.2) and Claire Dann (9.0) went 1-2 on beam and Floyd (9.6) and Garcia (9.35) had strong performances on floor to go 1-2.

Wednesday, Jan. 10

Girls' basketball

EDGEWOOD 61, MONROVIA 47: This game was originally scheduled for Tuesday before a blown transformer ended action during the JV game. When they got back together, it was Monrovia (8-8) that suffered a blackout, scoring eight points under its average in a win for the Mustangs (10-8). Edgewood led 29-25 at half before a 20-7 run in the third made all the difference. Macey Crider poured in 24 points while Ally Bland had 15 and Madi Bland nine for Edgewood.

Tuesday, Jan. 9

Wrestling

BLOOMINGTON NORTH 42, EDGEWOOD 22: The Cougars led just 26-22 before getting two pins from Cael Hickok at 157 pounds and Jeremiah Casillas at 165 then a 10-2 major from Tre Beckum at 175 to finish it off. North's other wins came from Kyle Barton (pin at 106), Oscar Rigdon (13-8 win at 113), Trae Hopkins (9-4 win at 132), Jeremy Jackson (pin at :36), Mattheus Wynalda, who got a takedown with three seconds left to post a 4-3 win at 190 and Chase May with a pin in the third period. Edgewood wins came from John Orman (8-1 decision at 120), Cayleb Sides (7-3 win at 126, Joel Silvernail (pin in 3:16 at 144, Michael Neidigh (9-1 major at 150), Trenton Fender (pin in :57 at 215).

Girls' basketball

BLOOMINGTON NORTH 55, MITCHELL 24: The Cougars (14-5) used a 25-5 run in the second quarter to go up 33-10 and roll by the struggling Bluejackets (1-17). Mia Robbennolt had 19 points, Ashley Stegemoller 13 and Ava Robbennolt 12 for North, which has won five straight.

EMINENCE 61, LIGHTHOUSE CHRISTIAN 29: The Eels (14-5) led just 27-22 at halftime before finishing on a 34-7 surge. Abagail Rousey had 15 points for the Lions (10-17), including all seven in the second half.

MONROVIA AT EDGEWOOD: A power outage midway through the JV game postponed the second half of that game and the varsity contest until Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Boys' swimming

BLOOMINGTON SOUTH 107, BEDFORD NORTH LAWRENCE 67: Lukas Paegle won the 200 free (1:50.55) and 100 free (48.28) and David Kovacs took the 50 (22.13) and breaststroke (1:00.18) to lead the Panthers. Cameron Seidenfaden won the 500 free (5:22.84). South swept the relays, winning the 200 medley relay in 1:42.04, the 200 free in 1:38.27 and 400 free in 3:34.78. Garrett Gabhert won the IM and backstroke for the Stars.

Girls' swimming

BLOOMINGTON SOUTH 120, BEDFORD NORTH LAWRENCE 58: The Panthers won all but one event even while mixing up the lineup. Anna Asplund IM (2:15.85) and 500 free (5:17.07) while Harper Eakin stepped away from the distance events to take the 100 free (57.99) and back (1:06.34). Nira Borneman won the breast (1:21.72), Kate Seidenfaden won the 50 (26.80), Emily Wang the 200 free (2:07.71) and Lucy Miksza won diving (181.30). South swept the relays, going 2:04.83 in the 200 medley, 1:46.27 in the 200 free and 3:59.15 in the 400 free.
