Rick Nash would have been All-Star Game captain if NHL asked

Well, the NHL ruined our fun.

When it became obvious New York Rangers star Rick Nash was having an all-star season, everyone’s thoughts turned to one thing: The idea that Nash, who asked out of Columbus and was traded to New York in 2012, could serve as an NHL All-Star Game captain against a player from the hometown Blue Jackets.

We sorta knew it wouldn’t happen, being that the All-Star Game is happy fun time for the League and its sponsors, and the bad feelings are usually contained to booing rivals in the player intros.

But according to Nash, it could have, had they asked.

Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reports that the NHL never asked Nash if he’d like to serve as a captain in the All-Star Game this season.

And if the League had? "Yeah, absolutely. I would definitely have accepted. It would have been great,” he said.

Grrrrrrr…

Although we won’t have the awesomeness of Team Nash invading the arena, Nash still anticipates that his appearance in Columbus will draw the same ire that it does when he arrives with the Rangers.

"If I had to guess, I would guess boos, same as when I go back there with the Rangers. That would be my guess,” he told NHL.com. "I don't think I would expect anything different. I played there and it wasn't the cleanest of the ways out. It's understandable. I'm the enemy now and they're passionate about their sports, so I kind of expect it."
