Bills’ Von Miller still aiming to be ready by Week 1
Von Miller continues to remain optimistic about his return to the Buffalo Bills following injury.
Against the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving in 2022, Miller sustained an ACL injury. Miller has aimed to return to the field before the Bills’ season opener next season.
As of late, it appears Miller might be coming to terms with that potentially not being the case.
In May, Miller said he will be back no later than Week 6 after his initial opening-day idea. From his pass-rush summit over the weekend, Miller again said he’s going to aim for Week 1… but if not, he said that’s OK.
“If they feel I can play, I will. If [the Bills training staff] don’t, I won’t. It’s all good,” Miller said via the Buffalo News. “I’m going to work as hard as I can. Whether I’m ready to go in Week 1 or not, I’m at peace because I know I’m doing everything I can to have success.”
In the past, the Bills have not pushed players back on the field after injury. The opposite is usually the case.
It’s different for each player’s body but cornerback Tre’Davious White suffered the same injury as Miller a season prior and on the same holiday game. He was sidelined for an entire year from Thanksgiving to Thanksgiving.
Buffalo general manager Brandon Beane expressed such a plan was in place for Miller at the end of last season. Giving Miller all the time he needs, but even the GM sounded optimistic at that time.
“I think Von’s in a good spot. I think he’s doing well. I expect him–I’m going to say the same thing. I expect him for a good portion of 2023; I’m not ruling out all of 2023,” Beane said.
The Bills will begin training camp at the end of July. Miller will not be out on the field then but a spotlight will be on him starting at that point.
