Bill Belichick reacts to Kingsbury’s praise, says Cards coach ‘should be the Coach of the Year’
New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick and Arizona Cardinals coach Kliff Kingsbury have engaged in a ‘You’re the man ... No, you’re the man’ style of pleasantries through the media within five days.
During Belichick’s guest appearance on Boston sports radio station WEEI’s The Greg Hill Show on Monday morning, he was asked about Kingsbury’s praise from Thursday that Belichick deserves to win NFL Coach of the Year not only this year, but every year until he retires.
The six-time Super Bowl champion head coach and three-time Coach of the Year winner appreciated Kingsbury giving him his flowers, but said Kingsbury deserves this year’s top coach award, not himself.
“That's very nice of Kliff to toss that bouquet. I'll toss it right back,” Belichick said. “Kliff has done a great job and should be the Coach of the Year."
The Patriots are currently the AFC East’s leader at 9-4, and are on a seven-game win streak through their bye on Sunday. The Cardinals have the league’s best record at 10-2, can clinch a playoff spot and step closer toward the NFC West title if they sweep the Los Angeles Rams (8-4) for this season when they face off on Monday night at home.
