Big strikeout numbers: Vote for the High School Softball Player of the Week

The high school spring sports season is fully underway. That means the return of our weekly player of the polls.

If you're new here, here's how it works:

  • Polls remain open for a week.

  • Votes are unlimited.

  • Nominations can be sent to cmcdaniel@wickedlocal.com with a quick description of the nominees achievements

  • Remember, just making this list is an notable honor.

  • The schedule: Monday - softball, Tuesday - baseball, Wednesday - girls lacrosse, Thursday - boys lacrosse

And before we delve into the spring, let's take a look back at our final winner from the winter. Duxbury High girls hockey player Lucia Rose was our final athlete of the week from the winter. The sophomore collected over 1,300 votes to earn the honor. Rose scored her first career varsity goal in a 4-0 win over Falmouth in the Division 2 state championship.

Let's kick things off with softball. Here are our first batch of candidates...

Kiley Murdock, Soph., Rockland: Murdock tossed a complete game with 15 strikeouts in a 10-3 win over Holbrook.

Haley Labrador, Fontbonne Academy: Labrador struck our 12 batters in a 13-1 win over Notre Dame Academy of Worcester.

Jill Ondrick, Jr., Archbishop Williams: Ondrick threw a 1-hitter with 15 strikeouts in a 15-0 win over Boston Latin Academy. She also belted a home run.

Emmy DiDomenico, Pembroke: DiDomenico broke open a 7-4 win over Whitman-Hanson with a bases-clearing single in the seventh inning.

Elsie Testa, Soph., Abington: Testa fired a 2-hitter with 12 strikeouts in an 8-0 win over Braintree. She also went 2-for-3 at the dish with a pair of runs scored.

Shannon Macleod, Sr., Notre Dame Academy: Maclead fired a 2-hitter with 16 strikeouts in a 12-1 win over Whitman-Hanson. She also starred at the plate (4-for-5, double, 5 RBIs).

Alanna Fidalgo, Seventh grade, West Bridgewater: Fidalgo went 3-for-3 with an RBI in a 4-1 win over Rockland.

Taylor Dolan, Sr., Cardinal Spellman: Dolan struck out 15 while allowing 6 hits in a 9-2 win over Ursuline Academy.

Mia Bradshaw, Sr., South Shore Tech: Bradshaw went 3-for-5 with three extra-base hits (2 doubles, triple) and 3 RBIs in a 12-11 loss to Norfolk Aggie.

Katie Anderson, Jr., Medway: Anderson launched a grand slam and drove in five runs, as the Mustangs took out Bellingham 13-5 on Tuesday.

Kayla Goodridge, Jr., Framingham: Goodridge and Shelby Kiklis combined for a shutout in the circle in the Flyers’ season-opening 15-0 win at Brookline. Goodridge struck out nine.

Ava McLeod, Fr., AMSA: McLeod opened her second varsity season throwing a one-hitter Monday in a 12-0 win over Marlborough. She struck out six in the circle for the Eagles (1-0) and added a double and a triple with two RBIs. In an 8-5 loss to a potent Hudson team later in the week, McLeod had an RBI double.

Lauren O’Malley, Jr., Hudson: O'Malley had two hits and drove in two runs as the host Hawks opened with an 8-5 win over Advanced Math & Science Academy on Sunday.

Janelle Scirocco, Sr., Nipmuc: Scirocco (2 doubles, RBI) had three hits for the Warriors (1-0) in a season-opening, 5-4 win over Shrewsbury.
