What Bernhard Langer says about Dolphins, his favorite NFL team, playing in his homeland, Germany
BOCA RATON — While Bernhard Langer is chasing his fourth TimberTech title Sunday in his hometown, his favorite NFL team will be chasing a win in his homeland.
Langer, 66, was born in Anhausen, Germany, which today is part of Diedorf. He has lived in South Florida for 37 years. During that time, he became a fan of the area sports teams, including the Miami Dolphins.
The Dolphins will be playing the Kansas City Chiefs Sunday in Frankfurt, Germany, about 220 miles north of where Langer was born.
“I imagine a lot of Germans would be kind of excited and interested to see the sport live," said Langer, who added he's been a Dolphins fan for a long time.
This year marks the first time the Dolphins have played in Germany and the first year the NFL has held games in Frankfurt.
“I imagine the place will be packed, sold out, and it might catch on," he said. "The big issue is soccer. It's so big in Germany, nothing can ever touch soccer. But there’s room for another sport."
The Dolphins, though, can only hope they one day are as successful as one of their longtime fans.

Langer became the PGA Tour Champions’ all-time wins leader at the U.S. Senior Open this summer, passing Hale Irwin with his 46th victory. He has won the Charles Schwab Cup playoffs six times, four more than any golfer on the 50-and-over tour.
The TimberTech Championship, the second leg of the Schwab Cup playoff, started Friday on the Old Course at Broken Sound. Langer is the defending champion.
