Bengals claim OL Shaq Calhoun off waivers
As expected, the Cincinnati Bengals flexed their No. 1 spot on the waiver wire to add to the roster a day removed from cutting to 53.
The Bengals used their priority to add offensive lineman Shaq Calhoun, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. The team waived Alex Redmond to make room.
Calhoun was an undrafted free agent in 2019 and latched on with the Miami Dolphins. He played in 10 games with seven starts.
The news comes on the heels of the team making some tough calls while cutting down to 53 and still needing to carve out a 16-man practice squad. New practice squad rules this year had a big impact on the formulation of the list and waive wire.
Bengals brass had made it clear they’d be plenty active on the waiver wire, especially with needs at spots like cornerback. They had already used a trade to address defensive tackle before cutting down the roster.
Despite some of the massive names on the waiver wire, Zac Taylor had gone out of his way to rule out signing quarterback Josh Rosen.
