The New Orleans Saints and New York Giants will try to build off of their 52-49 thriller last year. The Saints desperately need to escape the Meadowlands with a win, while the G-Men will attempt to start 2-0.

Highlights: Watch the best plays from Sunday

I got to talk to Cover32’s New York Giants managing editor, Curtis Rawls, ahead of the game. Have a look at my questions and his answers:

Alex: The Giants defense shut down Dez Bryant and the Cowboys last week. What changed after being the NFL’s worst in 2015?

Curtis: The Giants spent big money to upgrade their defense and we saw evidence of that on Sunday. Oliver Vernon and Damon “Snacks” Harrison were able to pressure Dak Prescott even though they didn’t get a sack. Janoris Jenkins is a physical corner who is best suited for covering tall receivers like Bryant.

Alex: Eli Manning didn’t look in sync. What went wrong?

Curtis: I can’t really say anything went wrong. It was the first game of the season and Manning played pretty well, in spite of that interception. I’ll take the three touchdowns.

Alex: Which Giants other than Beckham should the Saints keep an eye on?

Curtis: I would have to say Victor Cruz. Because the Cowboys double-teamed Beckham, Cruz was able to get his feet after an almost two-year hiatus and even score the go-ahead touchdown.

Alex: What key matchup will determine the outcome?

Curtis: The Giants’ receivers versus the Saints’ secondary. The Saints’ corners don’t have a great deal of experience and are coming off a stunning loss to the Oakland Raiders.

Alex: Who wins?

Curtis: This will be a high-scoring game. Manning is going against his hometown team (which is also the team his father played for). Drew Brees is Drew Brees so you know what you’re going to get from him. It’s the Giants’ home opener so I expect Big Blue to win in a shootout because they have a little more D than the Saints.
