Behind Enemy Lines: Q&A with Colts expert

The Denver Broncos have been dominated by the Indianapolis Colts, losing three of the last four meetings. While the Broncos try to move to 2-0 for the fourth-straight year, the Colts will try to avoid their third-straight 0-2 start. A lot is on the line Sunday.

I had the chance to talk to Nik Kline, the managing editor for the Colts here at Cover32. Take a look at my questions and his answers below:

Alex: The Colts seem to be Denver’s kryptonite. How do they do this, even though they can’t seem to hang in with teams like the Steelers or Patriots?

Nik: I wouldn’t say kryptonite as much as I would say scheme and Andrew Luck. The Colts defense has been in shambles, but last season a dismal offense allowed the Colts to keep pace with them. Remember that season opening game in 2014? The Colts made the game look close just because of some late second half touchdowns.

Alex: The Colts defense is a huge mess. How can the Broncos exploit that, having not been able to in the last four meetings?

Nik: Show up? The Colts could be without their top four cornerbacks ( Vontae Davis, Patrick Robinson, Antonio Cromartie and Darius Butler) and two of their top three safetys ( T.J. Green and Clayton Geathers). That alone spells trouble, but factor that in with no threat of a pass rush and all the Broncos need to do is just show up.

Alex: What is the key matchup that’ll determine this game?

Nik: Can the Colts get any form of pass rush and slow down C.J. Anderson. I know that is two things, but they will factor in together. Anderson is a monster, and the Colts are still struggling to shut down the run. Hell, they made Theo Riddick and Ameer Abdullah looks like All-Pro’s Sunday. IF and only IF they can do that they will need to figure out a way to get some sort of pass rush. And at this point, I do not think there is any chance of that happening.

Alex: Which Colts, besides Luck, should cary the Broncos most?

Nik: Mike Adams. The former Bronco is the one player on the Colts defense that can make a major impact. If he can force a few turnovers Sunday then the defense might be able to hold off the Broncos and give Luck enough time to pull off the upset.

Alex: Score prediction?

Nik: 31- 20 Denver. The Colts offense will finish as a top 5 unit this season, but the Bronco’s have one of the best defensive units still. Factor that in with home field advantage and I think this will be too much for Luck to overcome.
