Basketball Roundup: Lakeview, Harper Creek boys cruise to easy non-conference wins

BATTLE CREEK - A fast start by Lakeview set the tone and allowed the Spartans to cruise to another non-conference win.

Lakeview jumped out to a 17-5 lead in the first quarter and went on to beat Wyoming Kelloggsville, 66-41, in this non-conference boys basketball game at Lakeview High School on Tuesday. Lakeview is 4-0 in non-conference games on the season and has now won four straight games overall to improve to 11-4.

Maddox Bishop led the Spartans with 15 points and eight rebounds with Davis Barr scoring 13 points and Jake Kucharczyk coming up with 12 points and a team-high nine rebounds with five assists.

Harper Creek snapped a four-game losing skid with a one-sided win over Sturgis (2-11) in non-conference action. Harper Creek led 29-17 at halftime and improves to 4-11 with TreQuon Cotton leading the Beavers with 11 points with Brady Vette chipping in with nine.

Charlotte 64, Battle Creek Central 38

Battle Creek Central dropped to 1-11 after the non-conference home loss to Charlotte, which won its sixth game in a row to improve to 12-2.

Vicksburg 62, Coldwater 61

Coldwater fell to 5-12 as Jackson Reilly led the way with 14 points with Zach Coffing scoring 12 and Gavin Taylor adding 11 points and seven rebounds with four assists.

Bellevue 84, Martin 21

Bellevue goes to 11-1 overall with the win over Martin (0-13) as four players scored in double figures with senior guard Caleb Betz leading the way with 27 points and five assists as Noah Loren added 18 points and seven rebounds with Nate Payne getting 12 points and Connor Odette chipping in with 10 points and five steals.

Gobles 48, Climax-Scotts 29

Gobles (5-9) led 25-15 at halftime in the non-conference win over Climax-Scotts (4-9). Luke Lawrence had eight points to lead C-S with Miles Shannon had six points, seven rebounds, four assists and six blocks.

Maple Valley 74, Delton Kellogg 39

Maple Valley's Ayden Wilkes had 16 points and five rebound to lead Maple Valley (6-8). Cam Carpenter added 14 points and eight rebounds with Teegan McDonald adding 11 points and six assists. Chad Stopher had 14 points for Delton Kellogg (6-6).

Zion Christian 57, Galesburg-Augusta 54

Galesburg-Augusta (10-3) saw its six-game winning streak come to an end with a loss to Zion Christian (8-5). Jeremiah Mann had 18 points to lead G-A with Ethan Gibson getting 13 and John Klimp adding 12.

Litchfield 63, Athens 49

Kale Kiefer had 14 points and Addison Stanton had 13 points as Athens (0-14) lost to Litchfield (9-6).

Concord 61, Quincy 49

Concord led 11-5 after the first quarter and was up 28-16 by halftime. Brandon Miller had 16 points and 11 rebounds for Quincy (7-8).

Grass Lake 58, Homer 41

Homer dropped to 3-11 with the Cascades Conference loss. Tyson Garrett had 14 points to lead the Trojans.

Battle Creek Academy 49, Will Carleton 47

Battle Creek Academy snapped Will Carleton's seven-game win streak as the Tigers are now 10-4 with the win. Nathan Thomson had 18 points to lead BCA.

Girls Basketball

Olivet 33, Pennfield 17

In non-conference action on Tuesday, Olivet held off Pennfield in a low-scoring affair as the Eagles get back to .500 on the season at 7-7. Emmalie Letts led Olivet with 13 points and three rebounds with Olivea Gessner adding 11 points and three steals. Emilee Klacking had 13 points for Pennfield, which drops to 3-9.

Coldwater 47, Vicksburg 31

Coldwater won its fifth straight game is goes to 13-2 with the win over Vicksburg (10-2). Eli Foley had 16 points to lead the Cardinals.

Jackson Christian 23, Calhoun Christian 20

Calhoun Christian saw its eight-game winning streak come to an end in a loss to Jackson Christian (6-6) and sits at 9-4. Jayna Schwartz had eight points to lead the Cougars.

Mendon 55, Battle Creek Academy 16

Mendon rolled to 12-2 on the season with its fourth straight win. Sofia Keller had seven points for BCA (8-4).

Monday's Girls Basketball

Stockbridge 42, Olivet 38

Olivet lost this non-conference clash with Stockbridge (8-5). Magan Priesman had 12 points, six rebounds and two assists to lead Olivet.

Quincy 46, Pennfield 31

Pennfield suffered a non-conference loss to Quincy (2-10). Quincy outscored Pennfield, 21-15, in the second half to pull away. Natalie Hensel had 15 points and five rebounds to lead Pennfield.
