Baseball: Troup gets win over Chireno in pitcher's duel

Mar. 9—DOUGLASS — Troup won its second game in as many days by blanking Chireno's Owls, 4-0, Friday in the Cushing-Douglass 225 Tournament.

Friday's contest turned out to be a pitcher's duel between Payton Elliott of Troup and Chireno's Camden Nichols.

Both young men pitched well, with the Tigers (10-3) only able to churn out three hits; one more than the Owls (5-4).

Elliott pitched a complete game (4 innings, tournament time limit), struck out four and didn't walk a batter.

Hayden Huml had his second multi-hit game in the tourney. He went 2-2 and stole two bases — as a team the Tigers had six swipes.

A base hit by Colby Turner accounted for Troup's remaining hit.

Caden Graves drove in a run for the Maroon and White.

The Tigers will be back on the diamond at 7 p.m. Thursday when Overton comes to town.
