Banner Weekend: D-R boys soccer books trip to Final Four, B-P cheer wins state title

GLOUCESTER— The road warriors from Dighton-Rehoboth boys soccer were at it again Saturday.

The No. 26 Falcons (13-1-8) scored a massive upset, taking down No. 2 Gloucester, 4-1, to advance to the Division 3 Final Four. The win marked their third in a row on the road against a higher-seeded opponent after taking down No. 23 Belchertown, 2-0, in the Round of 16 and No. 7 Blackstone Valley, 2-1, in the Round of 32.

Juniors Ryan Moitoso and Johnny Franco both found the back of the net in the first half before senior Kristof Trond made it 3-0 with his fourth goal of the tournament. After the Fisherman cut the lead to 3-1, senior Ben Miller got one back with a late strike.

"It’s been kind of a roller coaster season here, but they’ve been playing well at the right time," D-R coach Mike Morgado said following the Round of 16 win over the Orioles. "I’m just super proud of these guys."
