Bailey is joining the Reds' party late
Cincinnati Reds right-hander Homer Bailey is starting to look like an ace at the right time.
He went 7 1/3 innings Tuesday night and allowed one run on four hits to beat the Chicago Cubs 3-1. Bailey walked two and struck out four.
"Homer was on point," catcher Ryan Hanigan said. "He had fastball command. He was really in control most of the game. He could get ahead with whatever pitch he wanted to. His fastball command great -- in and out, up and down. He kept guys off balance. He didn't fall into any patterns."
It was Bailey's fourth straight quality start. He has gone 29 innings and allowed a total five runs in those starts. That's a 1.55 ERA over that span. Bailey has 20 quality starts on the year, tying Johnny Cueto for the team lead.
"He trains hard," manager Dusty Baker said. "He's learned his body. He knows what his workload should be. I'm telling you what, he's throwing at well as anyone we have right now. It's good to see down the stretch."
Bailey improve to 12-9. He's the fourth Reds starter to win at least 12 games, joining Johnny Cueto (17), Bronson Arroyo (12) and Mat Latos (12).
