Auburn football score vs. Vanderbilt: Auburn defeats Vanderbilt 31-15

Aubie waves a flag before the game as Auburn Tigers take on Mississippi State Bulldogs at Jordan-Hare Stadium in Auburn, Ala., on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2023. Auburn Tigers defeated Mississippi State Bulldogs 27-13.

AUBURN — Auburn football will be back over .500 if it can score a win against Vanderbilt on Saturday.

The Tigers have yet to win a road SEC game under coach Hugh Freeze, as they've fallen at Texas A&M and at LSU earlier this season. But with the Commodores losing seven games in a row and Auburn riding high after beating Mississippi State in Week 9, there's a real opportunity for the Tigers to get the job done.

Quarterback Payton Thorne will be looking to stay hot after his encouraging performance versus the Bulldogs in which he completed 20 of his 26 passes for 230 yards and three touchdowns. It was the first time since December 2021 that he tossed at least three scores and didn't log an interception.

Thorne had been rotating at QB with Robby Ashford this season, but that slowed down against MSU as Thorne played all but two offensive snaps in the 27-13 win.
