Auburn continues 'internal conversations' related to renovations of Jordan-Hare Stadium

AUBURN — Auburn athletics director John Cohen has discussed the idea of renovating the north end zone of Jordan-Hare Stadium since he was hired in October 2022.

That thought is still in his head, though the discussions surrounding the topic remain in their infancy.

“We are having a lot of internal conversations," Cohen told the Montgomery Advertiser this week. "Very exploratory in nature at this point in time. We recognize, I think our fans recognize, campus recognizes that the north end zone is something that is a need. How quickly can it all come together? I don’t know.

"I think it’s fairly obvious that our scoreboard in the north end zone is kind of a relic. Let’s just say it reminds you of the past, not the future. We’re focused on making that improvement as well. We’re in a really good position (and) we’re trending in the right way to make sure Jordan-Hare Stadium remains the best place to watch college football in the country.”

Jordan-Hare Stadium experienced some slight enhancements just before the season started in September, with one the bigger changes being an increased capacity from 87,451 seats to 88,043.

Auburn baseball is currently in the midst of renovating Plainsman Park. The university announced its finalized plans for the project in June and construction has since begun.

“We’re off to a good start," Cohen said. "I’m very confident that the first phase – the Hall of Fame Club and the seating behind home plate – are going to be ready for Game 1. That's a premium option that we’ve really needed in Plainsman Park for a long time. And then the next phase out in the outfield and down the first-base side is going to be really nice.

"It’s not going to be the biggest stadium in the Southeastern Conference, but I think with the premium options we’re going to have, I’m going to say it’s going to be right up there with the great facilities in the Southeastern Conference.”
