Auburn baseball’s RPI ranking ahead of major series with LSU

Auburn baseball’s series win over No. 4 South Carolina did wonders for their resume.

Following the series win in Columbia, Auburn climbed back into the top 40 of the RPI and has also resurfaced in the postseason picture according to D1Baseball.

A series win, on the road, against a top-five team is great. It is even better when you have a chance to keep the energy going the following week. Auburn has a chance to do just that this weekend when No. 1 LSU comes to town for a three-game set.

As the calendar turns toward the back end, Auburn will need to keep playing at a high level in order to get a favorable seed at the SEC Tournament, as well as the NCAA Tournament. Playing well against LSU will do just that.

Here’s a look at where Auburn falls in major categories measured by RPI ahead of this weekend’s series with the Bayou Bengals.

Overall ranking: No. 36

Auburn made quite a leap over the last week in the RPI, as they are now within the top 40 after being in the No. 47 spot last week. South Carolina remains the No. 1 team in the RPI, with LSU also ranking in the top five.

Strength of Schedule: No. 9

The success of Auburn’s opponents continues to aid Auburn’s strength of schedule as they hold one of the nation’s top-ten hardest schedules. Auburn’s overall strength of schedule is fourth-toughest in the SEC. Only Kentucky, Georgia, and LSU have a harder slate.

Record at home: 18-8-1

Playing a team like No. 1 LSU at a place that you feel most comfortable is definitely an advantage. Auburn has won two of three series at home this season, most recently taking two of three from Mississippi State last month in an offensive-fueled series.

Record against tier-one teams: 6-9

Auburn gets another chance to improve their record against teams ranked in the top-25 of the RPI. Auburn earned two wins over South Carolina last weekend, and will face No. 3 LSU this weekend at home.
