Athletics RHP Gossett undergoes Tommy John surgery

Oakland Athletics right-hander Daniel Gossett underwent Tommy John surgery on Wednesday, the team announced.

Gossett required the ulnar collateral ligament reconstruction after being injured earlier this season. He went on the disabled list on June 5 due to elbow pain.

Gossett's recovery time will be at least 12 months. The team said he will resume his rehab on Saturday.

Gossett went 0-3 with a 5.18 ERA in five starts with the Athletics this season. His last outing was on June 3.

Overall, the 25-year-old is 4-14 with a 5.91 ERA in 23 career starts over the past two seasons.

Gossett is the fourth Oakland pitcher to undergo Tommy John surgery this season, joining left-hander A.J. Puk plus right-handers Kendall Graveman and Jharel Cotton. Graveman, the team's Opening Day starter, underwent his surgery on Monday.

The Athletics also optioned outfielder Dustin Fowler to Triple-A Nashville after Wednesday's 8-3 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays. Fowler was batting .231 with six homers and 21 RBIs in 59 games.

Oakland also reinstated outfielder Boog Powell (knee) from the 60-day disabled list since sent him to Nashville. Powell batted .167 in seven games with the Athletics earlier this season.

Oakland designated right-hander Carlos Ramirez for assignment. Ramirez was 1-2 with a 4.88 ERA in 17 games with Nashville and had a 3.24 ERA in five games in the majors this season in stints with the Toronto Blue Jays and Athletics.
