Astros top Rangers as rain pours inside Minute Maid Park

The Houston Astros play in a domed stadium.

The roof at Minute Maid Park is retractable for when the weather is nice. The weather was most certainly not nice for Thursday’s game against the Texas Rangers.

A violent Thunderstorm engulfed Houston, soaking streets around Minute Maid Park and prompting transportation warnings from local officials.

Bad weather in Houston

But thanks to the comforts provided by modern architecture, fans in Houston were able to watch Thursday’s game with little concern for the squall outside.

Right?

Not so much.

Rain in Minute Maid Park

The roof at Minute Maid Park does not appear to be the soundest of structures as videos that hit social media from the stands attest to.

Not the first time

It’s not the first time weather worked its way inside the Astros’ home. Heavy rains caused minor flooding inside the park in 2015 during a game against the Chicago White Sox.

But the home team ensured Thursday that if fans’ clothes were dampened, their spirits weren’t.

Josh Reddick gave the Astros the lead with an RBI single in the sixth inning and robbed Hunter Pence of a go-ahead home run in the ninth inning to secure a 4-2 victory for the home team.

Here’s hoping everyone got away from Minute Maid Park with little damage beyond getting wet.

Stay safe, Houston.
