Astronaut boys team, Cocoa Beach, Viera runners win FHSAA regional cross country meets
Astronaut High's boys team won and Isaac Cerveny of Cocoa Beach was the top individual on Thursday at the Region 2-2A cross country championship in Brooksville.
War Eagles took four of the top 11 spots to finish ahead of 15 other teams, including runner-up Edgewood.
Cerveny ran the 5,000-meter course in 16:33.0, and Shane Kinsey led Astronaut with a fourth-place finish in 16:49.7. West Shore's Aaron Murphy placed eighth in 17:05.9. Madison Carr, also from Astronaut, was the high Brevard girls finisher, fourth in 19:32.4. West Shore's sixth-place finish was the best for an area girls team.
At Saturday's 3-4A meet, Addison Elwell added a third straight postseason victory — Cape Coast Conference, district and region — to her 2023 resume, winning in 18:41.1, 29 seconds faster than the runner-up. Jack Girard (16:30.1) and Michael Girard (16;35.4) placed seventh and ninth, respectively, leading the Hawks to fourth in the boys standings.

At Saturday's 4-3A meet, Satellite finished as the boys runner-up and third in the girls race. Merritt Island's Brooke Yates took sixth among all girls, with a time of 19:32.2.
At the Region 2-1A meet, Holy Trinity's boys finished as the team runner-up and the school's girls placed third in their race. Skyler Jensen was the No. 9 boy in the standings, running in 16:54.8, followed by teammate Luke Thomas (16:56.2).
The state meet is Friday at Tallahassee's Apalachee Regional Park.
