Associated Press saves a spot on its All-American team for Texas freshman Madison Booker

The achievements section on Texas freshman Madison Booker's résumé keeps expanding.

On Wednesday, Booker was named a second-team All-American by the Associated Press. A panel of 35 AP voters placed her on the second team with Ohio State guard Jacy Sheldon, LSU forward Angel Reese, Virginia Tech center Elizabeth Kitley and South Carolina center Kamilla Cardoso.

The first-team honorees were Iowa guard Caitlin Clark, Stanford forward Cameron Brink, USC guard JuJu Watkins, UConn guard Paige Bueckers and Notre Dame guard Hannah Hidalgo.

Booker is the fifth Texas women's player to be voted onto an AP All-America team, joining Edwina Brown (second team, 2000), Stacy Stephens (third, 2003, and second, 2004), Tiffany Jackson (third, 2005) and Charli Collier (second, 2021). Booker is the only member of that group to earn her AP accolades as a freshman.

Booker started this season as a wing in the starting lineup, but took over point guard duties when Rori Harmon suffered a season-ending knee injury on Dec. 27. Booker was honored as the Big 12's co-player of the year and also took home the Most Outstanding Player award at the Big 12 Tournament. Booker has also earned third-team All-America nods from The Sporting News and USBWA.

For the season, Booker is averaging 16.9 points, 4.9 assists and 4.8 rebounds per game. She has helped the Longhorns (30-4) to a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2004. Texas hosts Drexel (19-14) in a first-round game Friday afternoon.
