The ascent of Avonte Maddox has just started

It seemed like yesterday that the Philadelphia Eagles drafted Avonte Maddox in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL draft.

A slot corner with versatility was exactly what they saw in Mr. Maddox.

Up until now, Maddox has shown nothing but improvement with earning a more pivotal role for this upcoming season at the corner position.

Maddox was moved to the outside corner spot during the 2020 — but it sort of turned out to be a nightmare. In 2021, he was moved to the slot; this is where he started to find his touch and build off his craft.

The front office and fans saw the vast improvement, arguably raising his confidence to maintain consistency at the slot.

The former University of Pittsburgh defensive back is no stranger to praise for his game, as it truly speaks for itself.

In fact, that’s why Pro Football Focus gave him the highest coverage grade of any slot corner at 76.1 this past season. During the 2021 season, Maddox allowed 57 catches and 416 yards while recording nine deflections. He only had one interception, but the moral of the story: Maddox has made the case for his importance on this roster.

It will be very exciting to see Maddox fly all over the field this 2022 season. He is joined by fellow cornerbacks that lists new acquisition James Bradberry and Pro Bowler Darius Slay.
