Sir Lewis Hamilton and Serena Williams have each pledged an estimated £10m towards Sir Martin Broughton's bid to buy Chelsea, according to reports.

Former Liverpool and British Airways chairman Broughton is one of three final bidders who are seeking to take control of the Premier League club after Roman Abramovich put it up for sale due to the sanctions imposed by the UK Government on Russian oligarchs, following the invasion of Ukraine.

Seven-time Formula One champion Hamilton, who is worth an estimated net value of more than £200 million, is reported to be among the highest-profile individuals to join the line-up of investors, according to Sky News.

The inclusion of Hamilton is likely to split the Chelsea fan base given it is well documented that the Mercedes F1 driver is a life-long Arsenal supporter, having attended the Emirates Stadium on several occasions.

Williams, the 23-time Grand Slam champion, is also reported to have committed the same sum to the takeover bid, which also features Lord Coe.
