Arizona State, Arizona men and women to compete in Jerry Colangelo event at Footprint Center

Area college basketball enthusiasts will get the chance to see four state schools in the same venue on Wednesday as the men's and women's teams from both Arizona State and University of Arizona participate in the Jerry Colangelo Hall of Fame Series at Footprint Center in downtown Phoenix.

The men's event is headlined by the No. 4 ranked Arizona men (8-1) who will square off against Alabama (6-4) at 9 p.m. in the last of the four games on the day and to be televised by ESPN. The ASU men (6-4) will face Northwestern (8-2) at 6:30 p.m. in the first game of Session 2, that one airing on ESPN2.

The earlier session will feature the women's teams with ASU (7-4) taking the court against Fresno State (7-5) at noon and that game followed by the Arizona women (8-3) against Gonzaga (11-2). Both of those games will air on the Pac-12 Network.

Arizona won its first eight games, climbing into a No. 1 ranking before being upended by No. 3 Purdue 92-84 in the marquee game of the weekend. Caleb Love and Keshad Johnson combined for 53 points and 14 rebounds in that contest.

The Wildcats also have a game on Saturday against No. 14 Florida Atlantic (9-2) at 1 p.m. at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Meanwhile, the ASU men are looking to bounce back from two straight losses, the last coming to TCU 79-59 on Saturday in Fort Worth. The Sun Devils were bolstered by the debut of Adam Miller who scored 20 points but lack of an inside game proved pivotal once again.

GCU teams seek seventh straight wins

The Lopes (9-2) have just one game this week, that coming on Wednesday when they host Sam Houston State (6-6) at 6 p.m. at GCU Arena. The game will air on ESPN+.

Grand Canyon has won its last six games, the most recent being a 91-63 win over Portland with Gabe McGlothan scoring 26 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Tyon Grant-Foster added 20 points and five assists.

The lone loss this season came to South Carolina 75-68 a month ago.

The GCU women (8-2) have also won six straight the last coming in dramatic fashion as junior guard Naudia Evans' buzzer-beater was the difference in a 65-63 overtime victory against Idaho.

The GCU women will play at Liberty (3-9) at noon on Wednesday. Trinity San Antonio (12.1 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 2 spg) is the team's leading scorer.
