Area Roundup: Barstow's Vasquez qualifies for CIF State Cross Country Finals

Barstow’s Angelina Vasquez extended her season another week after qualifying for the CIF State Cross Country Championships.

Vasquez finished ninth overall in the girls Division 4 race at the CIF-Southern Section Finals on Saturday.

Vasquez completed the course at Mt. San Antonio College with a time of 18:26.2.

Burroughs’ Leah Tomlinson also qualified as an individual, finishing in 15th place with a time of 18:46.6.

The state championships will be held at Woodward Park, in Fresno, on Saturday.

In the boys races, Granite Hills’ Hunter Roy missed the cut with a time of 15:50.3, which was good for 23rd place in the Div. 3 race.

In the Div. 4 race, Big Bear’s Max Sannes led all runners with a time of 15:11.4, followed by Burroughs' Yaseen Sardar, who finished eight seconds behind at 15:23.5.

PREP BOYS BASKETBALL

Apple Valley 77, CIMS 72

At Apple Valley, the Sun Devils rallied from an early 10-point deficit to beat the Cougars by five points Friday.

Michael Dominguez led the way for Apple Valley with 24 points, seven rebounds and four steals. Coy Davenport ended with a double-double, scoring 14 points with 13 rebounds, five assists, four blocks and four steals.

The Sun Devils (2-1) are back in action on Nov. 30 at University Prep.

Oak Hills 71, El Dorado 55

The Bulldogs ended the Rumble for Rosecrans Tournament with a victory over the Golden Hawks on Saturday.

For Oak Hills, Michael Miller led all scorers with 24 points, to go along with six rebounds; Semaj Blocker tallied 13 points and seven assists; and Garrett Johnson ended with a double-double scoring 12 points and snagging 11 rebounds.

The Bulldogs (3-1) are back in action Nov. 27 against Rolling Hills Prep.

Jackrabbits take first at Dick Comly tourney

At Victorville, the host Victor Valley topped Hesperia with a score of 42-39 for first place in the annual Dick Comly Tournament on Saturday.

Sultana took third overall in the tournament.
