Area cowboys and cowgirls compete in the State 4-H Finals Rodeo at Fort Pierre

FORT PIERRE — Ava Luken of Watertown earned the title of 2023 South Dakota State 4-H Rodeo Ambassador last weekend at the Stanley County Fairgrounds.

Luken won the Ambassador contest held during the State 4-H Finals Rodeo Aug. 18-20. She also won the Personality and Appearance as well as the Horsemanship Awards in the contest.

More than 700 contestants competed twice in each event they qualified in (first go and second go). An average of both rounds determined the top four state place winners in each event.

A number of area cowgirls and cowboys placed in events.
