Area athletes compete in Thursday meets at Pierre, Milbank, Onida, Yankton and Presho

PIERRE — Watertown and Aberdeen Central athletes combined for 27 first-place finishes on Thursday in the Al Sahli Invitational track and field meet.

Pierre also competed in the meet.

Watertown won seven events, getting individual victories from Elizabeth Lake (girls pole vault), Maddy Rohde (girls javelin), Isaiah Norton (boys 3,200-meter run) and Owen Spartz (boys pole vault).

Emma List, Kate McElroy, Victoria Smith and Andi Olson won the 3,200 relay and Olson, Emery Thury, Smith and Eve Hauger took the 1,600 relay in the girls division. Cole Hansen, Austin Redfield, Patrick Bednarczyk and Ayden Steiner teamed to win the boys' medley.

"It was the best weather we've had all year," said Watertown head coach Chad Rohde. "The kids keep improving. It's fun to watch the kids make progress with all the hard work they put in."

Aiden Heimann won the boys' 110 and 300 hurdles, Rylee Rieker the boys' long and triple jumps and Juna Ramey the girls' 1,600 and 3,200 runs for Aberdeen Central, which won 20 events.

Avery Ligon (100 dash), David VanVeen (1,600 run), Drew Salfrank (400 dash), Tyler Bain (high jump) and Jett Carlson (javelin) also won events for the Golden Eagle boys. Heimann, Ligon, Carter Dingman and Salfrank won the 800 relay and Kalen Larson, Brendon Phillips, Colby Dauwen and Sam Schultz the 1,600 relay.

Mya Arampatzis (100 hurdles), Ciara Frank (long jump), Addison Everson (triple jump) and Regan Lust (pole vault) won individual events for Aberdeen Central's girls.

The Golden Eagles won the 400 (Samantha Altmaier, Madilynn Spjut, Elliot Ermer and Madison Hochstetter), 800 (Altmaier, Spjut, Ermer and Catelynn Wong) and medley (Abigail Witte, Regan Lust, Eme Moung and Kaylie Peldo) relays.

S.D. National Guard Meet

MILBANK — Milbank swept division titles in the South Dakota National Guard Track and Field Meet on Thursday.

Thirteen schools competed. The Bulldogs won the girls division by a 180.5-111.25 margin over Great Plains Lutheran and the boys division by a 157.25-109 margin over Aberdeen Roncalli.

Shawnteah La Croix of Aberdeen Christian (100 and 200 dashes) and Gracelyn Leiseth (shot put and discus) each won two individual events in the girls division.

Other area event winners in the girls division included Siera Wenzl of Milbank (400 dash), Faith Traphagen of Groton Area (800 run), Halle Bauer of Great Plains Lutheran (1,600 run), Ava Taschner of Hamlin (3,200 run), Kami Wadsworth of Hamlin (javelin), Jacy Dexter of Milbank (pole vault), Marissa Bawdon of Hamlin (long jump), Aspen Johnson of Groton Area (triple jump), Katherine Prahl of Great Plains Lutheran (100 hurdles) and Kyrie Roberts of Great Plains Lutheran (300 hurdles).

Milbank won the 400 (Laney Forrette), Gemma Street, Dexter and Wenzl), 800 (Forrette, Maurina Street, Isabelle Anderson and Wenzl) and 1,600 (M. Street, Anderson, Ellie Neugebauer and Wenzl) relays. Groton Area won the 3,200 (Taryn and Faith Traphagen, Ashlynn Warrington and Rylee Dunker) and Great Plains Lutheran the medley (Sophie Kannas, Keturah Schleusener, Prahl and Bauer).

Area event winners in the boys division were Zac VanMeeteren of Hamlin (100 dash), Gavin Witt of Webster Area (200 dash), Maddox May of Aberdeen Roncalli (400 dash), Bryan Meyer of Milbank (800 run), Kaleb Foltz of Tri-State (1,600 run), Payton Brown of Milbank (3,200 run), Aiden Fisher of Aberdeen Roncalli (300 hurdles), Cristhian Rodriguez of Hamlin (shot put), Kaden St.Pierre of Hamlin (discus), Levi Reis of Ellendale, N.D. (javelin), Landon Czerwan of Great Plains Lutheran (high jump), Drew Reetz of Webster Area (pole vault), Jayden Munroe of Aberdeen Roncalli (long jump) and Abe Kretchman of Aberdeen Christian (triple jump).

Hamlin took the 400 (Rylan Thue, Luke Fraser, VanMeeteren and Rylan Prouty) and medley (Fraser, Thue, VanMeeteren and Freddy Vizcaya) relays.

Webster Area won the 800 (Martin Dorsett, Witt, Carson Mount and Reetz), Roncalli the 1,600 (Caden Shelton, Brody Weinmeiser, Parker Grieben and Munroe) and Tri-State the 3,200 (Foltz, Grayson Madsen, Kadin Raguse and Amsen Piotter).

Yellowstone Trail Conference

ONIDA — Herreid-Selby Area swept the team titles in the Yellowstone Trail Conference track and field meet on Thursday.

The Wolverines won the girls division with 159 points and the boys division with 164. North Central, Potter County, McLaughlin, Sully Buttes and Wakpala also competed.

Area boys division event winners included Sean Seurer (100 dash), Brayden Goehring (110 hurdles and long jump), Brenden Begeman (shot put and high jump) and Tanner Dryer (triple jump) of Herreid-Selby Area; Renzo Bullhead (200 dash), Wamni Kills Crow (800 run) and Jayden Taken Alive (1,600 run) of McLaughlin; and Carter Luikens (400 dash), Nicholas Schlachter (3,200 run) and Tanner Vandervorst (pole vault) of Potter County.

Potter County won the 800 (Seurer, Tanner Frickson, Jhett Simon and Landon Larson), medley (Seurer, Frickson, Lukens and Schlachter) and 3,200 (Jackson SImon, Frickson, Luiken and Schlachter) relays.

McLaughlin won the 400 (Quincy McCloud, Tyler Bullhead, John Eagle and R. Bullhead) and North Central the 1,600 (Carsten Engelhart, Jared Wherry, Michael Opp and Aiden Goings) relays.

Area girls division winners included Brooklyn Helm (100 dash), Jordyn Rossow (high jump), Breanna Jochim (long jump) and Jessie Johnson (triple jump) of Herreid-Selby Area; and Megan Seurer (200 dash), Emma Schlachter (400 dash), Peyton Stevens (800 run) and Jadyn Ahlemeier (1,600 and 3,200 runs) of Potter County.

Potter County's girls won the 1,600 (J. Ahlemeier, Rayel Persoon, Dannika Kaup and Schlachter), medley (Megan Seurer, Taylyn Rausch, J. Ahlemeier and Schlachter) and 3,200 (Persoon, Peyton Stevens, Tori Crook and Paige Ahlemeier) relays.

Herreid-Selby Area won the 400 (Helm, Stephanie Allbee, McKayla Hanson and Jochim) and 800 (Allbee, Hanson, Helm and Jochim) relays.

First Dakota Relays

YANKTON — Treven Grimsrud of Deubrook Area finished second in both the boys' 200 and 400-meter dashes on Thursday in the First Dakota Relays track and field meet.

The Dolphins were one of the 17 schools that competed in the meet.

Cecil Johnson Invite

PRESHO — Faulkton Area athletes won two events on Thursday in the Cecil Johnson Invitational track and field meet on Thursday.

Twenty schools competed.

Addison Melius won the girls' high jump (5-0) for the Trojans. She also ran on the second-place 3,200 relay and teammate Kelli Stoecker finished second in the triple jump.

In the boys division, Faulkton Area won the 800 relay (1:34.13) with runners Cade Schick, Roman DiMaria, Garrett Cramer and Daniel Stoll. The Trojans also took second in the 400, medley and 1,600 relays.
