Aquagirls sweep Marshalltown, Hoover in road double dual

Aug. 30—DES MOINES — Three Aquagirls posted times that currently rank in the top 10 in the state and the Newton-Colfax-Mingo-Pella 400-yard freestyle relay team now sits seventh overall after another successful night in the pool on Tuesday.

The NCMP girls' swim team faced off against Marshalltown and host Des Moines Hoover and won nine of the 11 events and swept the field with ease.

The Aquagirls defeated Marshalltown 62-32 and cruised past Hoover 74-18. Marshalltown downed Hoover 81-11 in their matchup.

Peyton Ray and Alex Riney both were part of four wins, Harper Barton registered three victories and the Aquagirls swept all three relays. NCMP won the relay races by an average of more than 10 seconds.

The winning 200 medley relay team of Riney, Barton, Izzy Lane and Brooke Linahon posted a time of 2 minutes, 2.76 seconds.

Riney and Linahon joined Ray and Paige Benson on the winning 200 freestyle relay team and they finished the race in 1:50.01.

The 400 freestyle relay team of Riney, Ray, Addison Van Maanen and Barton secured a season-best time of 3:54.74 to win the race. That currently ranks as the seventh-best time in the state.

The Aquagirls' second relay teams in all three races finished third against Marshalltown and second in the matchup with Hoover.

The 200 medley relay team of Van Maanen, Estella Allen, Benson and Anna DeVries finished in 2:06.69. Marshalltown posted a time of 2:06.39.

Harper Barton

In the 200 freestyle relay, Avery Meyer, Hailey Dickerson, Jacy Linahon and Allen registered a time of 2:03.44, which was a little more than 3 seconds back of Marshalltown.

Lane, DeVries, Meyer and Dickerson teamed up in the 400 freestyle relay and the foursome finished in 4:22.57.

NCMP won six individual races. It was 1-2 in the 200 freestyle, 200 individual medley and 100 butterfly.

Ray won the 200 freestyle with a season-best time of 2:06.76, which currently ranks sixth in the state. Tori White was the runner-up in 2:14.89.

Riney made her season debut in the 200 IM and won the race in 2:27.48. Van Maanen was the runner-up in 2:28.7.

Benson and Lane finished 1-2 in the 100 butterfly. Benson's winning time was 1:09.91 and Lane finished second in 1:12.74.

Ray won the 100 freestyle in 57.6 seconds, White posted a winning time of 1:04.55 in the 100 backstroke and Barton's time of 1:12.63 won the 100 breaststroke.

Both White and Barton now currently have top-10 times in their respective events.

Marshalltown's Lesli Waltermire won both the 50 freestyle (26.42) and 500 freestyle (5:59.05). Her time in the 50 currently ranks fifth in the state.

Barton made her season debut in the 50 freestyle and placed first against Hoover and second against Marshalltown in 26.75. Benson (27.92) was the runner-up against Hoover and placed third in the team's matchup with Marshalltown.

DeVries' time of 6:20.46 placed her first against Hoover and second versus Marshalltown in the 500 freestyle. Meyer was second against Hoover and third in the dual with Marshalltown with a time of 6:32.99.
