Anthony Joshua joined Canelo Alvarez as only boxers among 50 highest paid athletes

Two boxers ended up on Forbes’ list of the 50 highest paid athletes over the past year.

Canelo Alvarez ranked No. 5, with earnings of $110 million ($100 million in the ring, $10 outside it) between May 1, 2022 and the same date this year, as previously reported by Boxing Junkie.

He was joined by Anthony Joshua at No. 28, with $53 million ($50 million and $3 million).

The list was dominated by basketball players (15), golfers (12), football players (10) and soccer players (6). Formula 1 and tennis tied boxing with two representatives.

Alvarez fought twice during the designated period. He lost a decision to Dmitry Bivol on May 7 of last year and outpointed rival Gennadiy Golovkin in their third fight last Sept. 17. Both fights were in Las Vegas.

He defeated John Ryder by a unanimous decision on May 6 in his homecoming fight in Mexico.

Joshua also fought two times. The former heavyweight champion from England lost a split decision in his second fight with Oleksandr Usyk last August and decisioned Jermaine Franklin last month.
