Angelo State football hosts Western Oregon in last game, playoff hopes still alive

The Angelo State football team aims to continue its winning streak with its last regular-season game against Western Oregon University at 6 p.m. Saturday at LeGrand Stadium.

The Rams (6-3, 5-2) picked up another Lone Star Conference win last week with a 27-12 win over Midwestern State. ASU held the Mustangs scoreless for three quarters while throwing for 349 yards through the air and only allowing 254 total yards on the day.

The Wolves (3-7, 2-5) hold the seventh spot in the LSC averaging 20.3 points per game, which is the second lowest in the conference while allowing the third most points at 29.3. WOU is a balanced offense that averages 163.5 yards rushing and passing per game, led by running back Dominique Loggins, who is sixth in the conference in rushing average at 70 yards per game with six total touchdowns.

The Rams own the all-time series lead 3-0 against Western Oregon dating back to their first win in 2018. Angelo State averages 33 points against Western Oregon and beat them 30-7 on the road last year.

While the Rams have three losses on the season, there is still an outside chance the Rams sneak into the postseason based on their strength of schedule. The Rams' three losses include a 10-point loss to No. 1 Colorado School of Mines, a five-point loss to No. 17 UT Permian Basin and a three-point loss at No. 24 Central Washington. A decisive win against Central Washington would go a long way for the Rams' playoff hopes.
