Detroit Tigers picks in MLB draft 2023: All 21 player selections

Scott Harris is on the clock.

The Detroit Tigers’ first-year president of baseball operations, along with top lieutenants Mark Conner and Rob Metzler, has 21 picks in the MLB draft 2023, including three picks in the top 45. The draft began at 7 p.m. Sunday at Lumen Field — the home of the NFL's Seahawks — in Seattle and concludes Tuesday afternoon.

It all started in December when the Tigers got a favorable pull in MLB’s first-ever draft lottery; the Tigers moved from the No. 6 pick to No. 3 overall. (Their picks from Round 2 on will still come at No. 6, though.)

Even better, this year’s draft is seen as one of the deepest at the top in decades, with three collegiate players and two high school outfielders distancing themselves from the pack.

ANALYSIS: Tigers first 3 picks of 2023 MLB draft could be a grand slam — or a gut punch

How soon could the Tigers’ picks arrive in Detroit? One of the top college players could debut as early as late next season, while the timeline is a little longer for high schoolers. Still, Riley Greene went from the No. 5 pick in 2019 as a high schooler to virtually making the Tigers’ Opening Day roster in 2022.

Here are all the Tigers’ 21 picks during MLB draft 2023:

Competitive Balance Round A — No. 8 (37): SS Kevin McGonigle, Monsignor Bonner HS (Pennsylvania).
