Alabama high school football: Gadsden area rankings of top ten football teams

Here are the all-class power rankings ahead of Week 5 of the high school football season in the Gadsden area. All 27 teams, regardless of class, in the Gadsden Times coverage zone are eligible to be ranked.

1. Cherokee County (7-0)

The Warriors have a big matchup with Etowah but a win will bring them a region championship. Last Week: No. 1, 35-0 win over Fultondale; This week: Away at Etowah

2. Southside (6-1)

Southside need to get past Alexandria to set up a winner-take-region matchup with Moody, even without Gauge Nesmith. Last Week: No. 2, Idle; This week: Home vs. Alexandria

3. Gadsden City (5-3)

Gadsden City rolled to another region win, in a game that their stars shined bright as they clinched the region title. Last Week: No. 4, 42-13 over Mae Jemison; This week: Away vs. Lee-Huntsville

4. Sardis (5-2)

Sardis failed the second test they had but everything is still in front of them. Last week: No. 3, 41-21 loss to Scottsboro This week: Away vs. Boaz

5. Fyffe (6-1)

Stop if you’ve heard this one before, Fyffe rolled to another win against a Class 2A opponent, allowing only six points to them all year. Last Week: No. 5, 47-0 over Sand Rock; This week: Home vs. Pisgah

6. Guntersville (6-0)

Guntersville got a second break, thanks to Crossville dissolving their team ahead of the season. Last week: 10, Idle; This week: Home vs. Arab

7. Jacksonville (7-1)

Jacksonville hasn't shown any signs of slowing down, on both either offense or defense. Last Week: No. 6, 58-14 over Munford; This week: Idle

8. Geraldine (6-1)

Geraldine still only has one blemish on its record, but has been rolling through the schedule outside of that. Last week: No. 7, 30-7 win over Westbrook Christian; This week: Home vs. Piedmont

9. Pisgah (7-0)

The Eagles have continued to roll through their schedule, but the biggest test comes into full picture now — Fyffe. Last week: No. 9, 52-6 win over Whitesburg Christian This week: Home vs. North Sand Mountain

10 . Sylvania (6-1)

Sylvania overwhelmed Plainview and rolls into a matchup with Hokes Bluff, one that could be telling for both teams. Last Week: No. 10, 56-20 win over Glencoe This week: Home vs. Plainview
