Alabama defensive end Tomlinson to have surgery
Second-team Alabama defensive end Davlin Tomlinson will have surgery after injuring his knee on Wednesday.
Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban had little to say on Thursday about the injury, and would not predict when the redshirt freshman might be able to return.
"I'm not going to comment on what the issue is," Saban told Al.com. "They'll know for sure when they do the surgery and we'll let you know what the outcome of the surgery is when they do it. But other than that I think we're well along."
Tomlinson made his debut in Saturday's 35-10 win over Virginia Tech. The 6-foot-2, 287-pounder made four tackles against the Hokies.
Tomlinson was injured while playing for his high school soccer team in April 2012. That injury forced Alabama to redshirt him, otherwise he would have played as a true freshman, Saban said.
