Alabama basketball lands transfer Jaykwon Walton from Wichita State

Alabama basketball has landed its first transfer of the offseason as Jaykwon Walton returns to the state.

Walton, who spent the 2021-22 season with Shelton State in Tuscaloosa, is returning to the city, this time to play for the Division I team. Walton announced his decision Tuesday with On3.

The 6-foot-7, 206-pound junior who averaged 13.9 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.9 assists over 32.3 minutes per game this past season with Wichita State.

Walton began his collegiate career at Georgia, where he played seven games in 2019-20 and two games in 2020-21. While at Shelton State, Walton averaged 12.9 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.3 steals over 22 games.

In high school, he played for George Washington Carver in Montgomery, where he won a 6A state title his junior season and finished as runner-up his senior season. Walton began his high school career at Northside in Columbus, Georgia.

The addition of Walton comes with the likely departure of a handful of players:

  • Nimari Burnett entered the transfer portal on Tuesday.

  • Jahvon Quinerly's future plans are unknown as he decides whether to use his final year of college eligibility or turn to professional options.

  • Brandon Miller and Noah Clowney both could declare for the NBA Draft. ESPN has each ranked in its top 20 prospects, and Miller is a projected lottery pick.
