AFC East Week 6 recap and standings: 3 teams earn victories
Week 6 brought another slate of NFL games that included some entertaining duels and some absolutely shocking upsets across the league.
After six weeks, the AFC East has one team at the top again – the Miami Dolphins at 5-1.
Miami took on the winless Carolina Panthers at Hard Rock Stadium without two of their starting offensive lineman. Mike McDaniel’s squad fell into an early 14-0 hole after the first quarter. They stormed back with 35 straight points, including three touchdowns in the second quarter to eventually secure a 42-21 win. While they were glad to see the outcome, they’d probably rather win games without having to crawl back.
The Bills remained in second place in the division after downing the New York Giants on Sunday Night Football. New York was without starting quarterback Daniel Jones and two starting offensive linemen, but they hung around to make it a game. Buffalo despite having a solid rushing attack, couldn’t put it all together, partially due to two turnovers. The Giants even had the ball twice inside the Bill’s five-yard line and walked away with zero points, proving Buffalo was a bit lucky to have survived.
Robert Saleh’s New York Jets are still in third place in the AFC East after pulling off one of the biggest surprises of the weekend, as they beat the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, 20-14. Entering the matchup, the Jets had never beaten the Eagles before, but that changed when Jalen Hurts threw three interceptions and D’Andre Swift lost a fumble. New York was without their top two cornerbacks due to concussions, forcing them to start two practice squad call-ups. They were still able to stifle the defending NFC champions. Despite not having Aaron Rodgers, the Jets have definitely entered frisky territory.
The Patriots are the laughingstock of the division and arguably the league, as they lost to the Las Vegas Raiders at Allegiant Stadium, 21-17. Las Vegas, with their roster and coaching staff made up of former Patriots kept Bill Belichick’s at bay. Even when quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo went down, Brian Hoyer was able to keep New England from capturing the lead. Everything is going wrong for the Patriots, and their 1-5 record says it all.

Buffalo Bills (4-2) vs. New England Patriots (1-5)
New York Jets (3-3) vs. New York Giants (1-5)
