Aaron Rodgers to wear new number with the New York Jets in 2023

Aaron Rodgers is officially a member of the New York Jets after the Green Bay Packers concluded their drawn out trade on Monday.

But the quarterback will not be sporting the same jersey number on his new team.

Rodgers will no longer be No. 12 but will return to No. 8, the number he wore in college at California.

Legendary New York Jets quarterback Joe Namath gave Rodgers permission to wear his No. 12, which is retired, but the the 10-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champion decided not to take the Hall of Famer up on the offer.

Namath's number is one of five retired by the Jets, including No. 13 for Don Maynard, No. 28 for Curtis Martin, No. 90 for Dennis Byrd and No. 73 for Joe Klecko, who will be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame this year
