Aaron Rodgers had 94 seconds on the field as a Jet. Here's how they were spent

The much anticipated debut of Aaron Rodgers with the New York Jets lasted just over a minute and half on Monday night in a nationally televised game.

Long-suffering Jets fans saw No. 8 as the final big piece that could vault the team back to the Super Bowl for the first time since Broadway Joe Namath delivered on his promise to win Super Bowl III. Jets fans have been waiting 54 long years and got to see Rodgers for all of four plays — just 94 seconds on the game clock.

The night began with a rousing entrance for the former Green Bay Packers star and future Hall of Famer. In a darkened MetLife Stadium, Rodgers entered carrying the American flag on 9/11 to a roaring ovation.

On the game's opening drive, the Jets defense held the Buffalo Bills to a six-play drive and forced them to punt.

Q1,12:30: Rodgers takes the field

With 12:30 left in the first quarter and the Jets backed up to their 12-yard line, Rodgers took the field as a Jet for the first time in a regular-season game to a huge ovation from the sellout crowd of 82,500.

The drive started out full of promise as Rodgers handed off to running back Breece Hall, who broke through the Bills line and to the outside for 26-yard gain.

Q1, 11:53, Rodgers throws an incomplete pass

With a fresh set of downs and the ball at the Jets' 38-yard line, Rodgers drops back and comes under heavy pressure. He is tripped up but manages to stay on his feet and throw the ball out of bounds.

Under pressure again, Rodgers' next pass, a short one, also fell incomplete off the hands of Tyler Conklin, but a Buffalo defensive holding penalty gave the Jets a first down at their own 43.

Rodgers stood up briefly before returning to the turf. He was helped off the field by trainers and, after a brief time in the medical tent on the sideline, he was carted off to the Jets locker room.

Rodgers' season was over in less than five minutes of the first quarter of the Jets' first game of the NFL season.

$400,000 per second in restructured contract

After being traded to Jets from Green Bay, Rodgers restructured his contract with his new team and signed a two-year deal worth $75 million in July.

At $37.5 million per season, Rodgers earned just under $400,000 per second he was on the field Monday night or $9.375 million per play he was on the field.

What is an Achilles tear?

The Achilles is the tendon that goes up the back of the ankle and connects the foot to the leg. It runs from the heel bone to the bottom of the calf muscle. It directs movement from the leg to the foot, including pointing and flexing.

The connective tissue can be torn partially or completely with a misstep or with a sudden movement like jumping. A torn Achilles creates a lot of pain and makes it difficult to walk.

Per the Mayo Clinic, the odds of injuring an Achilles increase with age. Most Achilles injuries happen between the ages of 30 and 40. Men are five times more likely to experience the injury than women.

The phrase "Achilles heel" comes from Greek mythology. When Achilles was a baby, the famous warrior was dipped into a river by his goddess mother to make him immortal. She held him by the heel, which was the one spot that wasn't touched by the water and therefore was vulnerable.

How do you repair an Achilles tear?

Rodgers, at age 39, faces a long recovery.

An Achilles tear sometimes requires surgery, but not always, according to the Mayo Clinic.

If the treatment plan means surgery, the doctor will cut into the bottom of the patient's leg and stitch the torn tendon together.

If a patient chooses not to have surgery, the tendon can be repaired with lots of rest and by avoiding putting weight on the injured foot. A patient would probably walk with crutches or a boot while the tendon heals.

The Mayo Clinic noted that most patients return to their previous level of activity "within four to six months" while complete recovery can take up to a year.
