9 Hawkeyes named to Senior Bowl Watch List

The Reese’s Senior Bowl is one of the prestigious annual showcases for veteran playmakers across college football.

Last season, four Iowa Hawkeyes were invited to the Reese’s Senior Bowl. That group featured linebacker Jack Campbell, tight end Sam LaPorta, safety Kaevon Merriweather and cornerback Riley Moss.

Held in Mobile, Ala., the Reese’s Senior Bowl provides the first opportunity following the college football season for coaches and decision-makers from all 32 NFL teams to get a look at potential NFL draft prospects. For a series of Hawkeyes, it will once again represent one of the final proving grounds en route to the NFL.

In a show of this 2023 Iowa team’s strengths, nine Hawkeyes were place on the initial Reese’s Senior Bowl watch list.

Here’s a look at all nine and their career numbers so far.

Career stats: 54 receptions, 565 receiving yards, 2 touchdowns

Erick All arrives in Iowa City as a Michigan transfer. The 6-foot-5, 250 pound tight end demonstrated in 2021 that he can be a leading force in the passing game when he hauled in 38 grabs for 437 yards and a pair of scores. He’s appeared in 33 games and started 12 during his collegiate career.

DL Deontae Craig

Career stats: 45 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, 8 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, 1 pass defensed

Deontae Craig has appeared in 24 games and he registered 10 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks last season as his role expanded. The 6-foot-3, 266 pound defensive lineman will be one of the Hawkeyes’ most explosive players up front.

Career stats: 36 tackles, 8 passes defensed, 4 interceptions, 1.5 tackles for loss

Jermari Harris returns from injury to start opposite Cooper DeJean at corner. With four interceptions during the 2021 season, there’s reason for optimism that he can slide right in for Riley Moss and continue to produce.

LB Nick Jackson

Career stats: 354 tackles, 20 tackles for loss, 10.5 sacks, 8 passes defensed, 1 forced fumble

Nick Jackson transferred in from Virginia where he was a two-time second-team All-ACC selection. He’s tallied triple-digit tackles in three consecutive seasons. Alongside Jay Higgins, Jackson looks to continue elite linebacker play in Iowa City.

OL Logan Jones

Career stats: 14 career appearances, started all 13 games at center in 2022

Logan Jones could be one of the biggest keys to the Iowa Hawkeyes’ season. The 6-foot-3, 290 pound center started all 13 games there last season and will be expected to take his game to the next level. It was a steep learning curve in the spring of 2022 into last season as Jones made the switch from defense to offense. With another spring and summer under his belt, the hope is that Jones will elevate his play and the Hawkeyes’ offensive line play overall.

Career stats: 36 receptions, 531 receiving yards, 4 touchdowns

Luke Lachey showed last season that he’s ready for a leading role. When Sam LaPorta went down with injury against Minnesota and Nebraska, Lachey delivered with 12 grabs for 166 yards and one score.

DL Logan Lee

Career stats: 103 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, 6 sacks, 4 passes defensed

Logan Lee’s return is all the more important now that Noah Shannon has been suspended for the entirety of 2023 by the NCAA. The 6-foot-5, 291 pound defensive tackle tallied 54 tackles, eight tackles for loss, three sacks and three passes defensed last season.

QB Cade McNamara

Career stats: 3,181 passing yards, 21 touchdowns, 7 interceptions, 63.1% completion

With his 13-3 record as a starter leading Michigan, Cade McNamara is expected to take Iowa’s offense to the types of heights that will morph the Hawkeyes into a legitimate Big Ten contender. He led the Wolverines to the Big Ten crown in 2021.

OL Mason Richman

Career stats: 28 games played, 25 starts

Mason Richman started all 13 games at left tackle last season and 12 of 14 games there in 2021. Like Logan Jones, he now has a wealth of experience. Richman’s growth and improvement will be pivotal for Iowa’s 2023 hopes.
