500 Festival education program visits Greensburg Elementary

Mar. 13—Greensburg Elementary School fourth-graders on Monday had the opportunity to learn about the Indianapolis 500 via a mobile study trip with the Indianapolis 500 Education Program.

The mobile study trip brings lessons students learn in the classroom to life with interactive stations featuring an Indy car, flags and more.

The stations cover various topics, ranging from the science behind IndyCar cars, the equipment drivers use, speed, numbers, timing, scoring, health, nutrition and medical safety.

The Indianapolis 500 Education Program is sponsored by IU Health. It's a free program immersing fourth grade students around Indiana in the world of the Indianapolis 500 and the 500 festival.

Since launching in 2004, the program has reached more than 449,000 Indiana students in 18,450 classrooms, with 337 schools participating in 2023.
