5 teams make FHSAA volleyball playoffs; track local cross country results from this week

Five area volleyball teams led by Jensen Beach made it through to the FHSAA state playoffs after regional seeding and quarterfinal matchups were released Saturday evening.

The Falcons will be the No. 1 seed in Region 4-5A after winning the District 13-5A championship with a three-set win over Okeechobee on Thursday.

Jensen Beach continues to be the top-ranked team in 5A and is ranked No. 17 overall with their 24-3 record and the program won its 14th district title in 19 years and seek its fifth state championship.

No. 8 seed Pembroke Pines Charter will be the first matchup for the Falcons on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. and Jensen Beach is the lone Treasure Coast team who will be at home in the regional quarterfinals.

Fort Pierce Central earned the No. 5 seed in Region 2-7A as an at-large berth and will get a chance at redemption as they will take on the same Jupiter team that won the District 7-7A championship on the Cobras' home court Thursday.

With an 18-9 record, Fort Pierce Central will travel to Jupiter this time at 7 p.m. Wednesday after falling in four sets in the district final to the Warriors as the two teams will play for fourth time this season.

Okeechobee received the No. 5 seed in Region 4-5A in the same region as Jensen Beach and will travel south to Plantation and play District 14-4A runner-up American Heritage on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

The Brahmans were defeated in three sets by Jensen Beach Thursday in the District 13-5A final and will enter the postseason with a 12-8 record.

South Fork earned a No. 7 seed and will go north to Winter Garden and play No. 2 seed Horizon in Region 2-6A on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

The Bulldogs were beaten in three sets by Viera in Thursday's District 8-6A final but still comfortably made the postseason with a 16-11 record and will have their hands full with the Hawks, the 6-6A champions with a 20-4 record.

St. Edward's also earned a No. 7 seed in Region 2-2A and will travel north to Ocala and play No. 2 seed St. John Lutheran on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

The Pirates suffered a tough five-set loss to Brevard HEAT leading two sets to one in the District 8-2A championship match but the Pirates with a 12-6 record will get a shot at the Saints, who won the District 5-2A championship.
