5 position battles to watch after the first week of Eagles training camp
The Eagles have finished up an intense week of training camp, and as the team starts preparation for the preseason opener against the Jets, several important camp battles are now taking shape.
Philadelphia has about 41 locks on the potential 53-man roster.
With two weeks of joint practices (Browns, Dolphins) looming, the preseason games will provide plenty of opportunities for players to win or lose jobs before the regular season opener.
With the Eagles wrapping up a Wednesday morning walk-through, here are five position battles to watch after week one of training camp.
WR No. 4 and No. 5

The Eagles’ receiving corps is much improved from last season, mainly because of the acquisition of A.J. Brown on draft night.
With Brown locked in the fold, Philadelphia has a talented trio with DeVonta Smith and Quez Watkins.
Before training camp, the expectation was that Zach Pascal would be the fourth wide receiver in the lineup, but food poisoning and a strong training camp from Jalen Reagor have pushed that idea back.
Greg Ward, John Hightower, Deon Cain, Britain Covey, Devon Allen, and others will be looking to fill the fifth wide receiver role.
Middle Linebacker

The Eagles signed T.J. Edwards to an extension at the end of last season and then rewarded him by signing Kyzir white and drafting Nakobe Dean.
A first-round talent that fell to the third round because of confusion regarding a pectoral muscle injury, Dean has started off slow, as Edwards has excelled at the mike linebacker position.
CB No. 5

Zech McPhearson should fill the fourth cornerback role behind Darius Slay, James Bradberry, and Avonte Maddox. Cornerback No. 5 should be a battle between Tay Gowan, Kary Vincent Jr., Mac McCain, Mario Goodrich, Josh Jobe, and Josh Blackwell.
Punt/Kick Returner

Devon Allen made the final at the World Outdoor Track and Field Championships and has the third-fastest 110-meter hurdles time in history, providing Philadelphia with an intriguing option in the return game.
Britain Covey of Utah will also battle Jalen Reagor, Jason Huntley, and others for those two key spots.
Right Guard

After a year away from the game, Isaac Seumalo switched to the right guard spot.
Seumalo has played in just 12 games over the last two seasons, while Jack Driscoll has impressed during his time at right guard and right tackle.
Former Nebraska center Cam Jurgens also is an option at the position.
