5 Mid-Valley cross country runners to watch this season
As temperatures remain hot in the Mid-Valley, cross country runners are preparing to record their own sizzling times.
Runners will endure a season that lasts just more than two months, with the state championships for all classifications set for Nov. 4 at Lane Community College in Eugene.
Here are five Mid-Valley cross country runners to watch this season.
Nelida Dalgas, North Salem cross country
As a freshman last season, North Salem's Nelida Dalgas finished sixth at the OSAA Class 6A state championships with a time of 18:26.0.
She placed highest among Central Valley Conference runners at the state meet.
In the conference championships, Dalgas finished second with a time of 18:24.8, behind only West Salem’s Avery Meier at 18:16.4.
Jack Meier, West Salem cross country
As a junior last season, West Salem’s Jack Meier finished fourth at the OSAA Class 6A state championships with a time of 15:20.7.
He was the top CVC finisher at state.
At the CVC district meet, Meier finished first with a time of 14:46.3.
Avery Meier, West Salem cross country
As a freshman last year, West Salem’s Avery Meier finished 21st at the OSAA Class 6A state meet with a time of 19:00.5.
She finished fourth among CVC runners at state, behind Dalgas (18:26.0), Sprague’s Sara Abbott (18:33.6) and West Salem’s Gitte Lonigan (18:53.3).
At the CVC district meet, Meier won the championship with a time of 18:16.4.
Gitte Lonigan, West Salem cross country
As a freshman last season, West Salem’s Lonigan finished 15th at the OSAA Class 6A state meet with a time of 18:53.3.
She finished third among CVC runners at state, behind Dalgas and Abbott.
At the CVC district meet, she finished fourth with a time of 19:04.8.
Kelsey Rodli, Dallas cross country
As a freshman last year, Dallas’ Kelsey Rodli finished 11th at the OSAA Class 5A state championships with a time of 19:10.8.
At the Mid-Willamette district meet, she placed fourth with a time of 18:56.3.
