49ers may stay on road for playoffs

San Francisco coach Jim Harbaugh said Monday he would consider keeping the 49ers on the road during the playoffs if the team ends up playing at Carolina in the second round.

“I’ve given it some thought,” Harbaugh said Monday. In both 2011 and 2012, the 49ers spent a week on the road between games on the East Coast, training in Youngstown, Ohio both times. However, the 49ers had the advantage of advance planning in both cases.

The team could pack for a two-week trip on the assumption that if it wins on Sunday at Green Bay and New Orleans beats Philadelphia on Saturday, the 49ers would have to face Carolina in the second round. If the Saints lose, the 49ers would travel to Seattle for the second round, eliminating the need for a stopover.
